A Celebration of Tradition and Childhood Wonder
Sitges, a picturesque coastal town in Spain, is known for its vibrant festivals, and one of the most enchanting among them is Santa Tecla. Often referred to as the “small” festa major, Santa Tecla has a unique charm that sets it apart from the bustling tourist season.
Embracing Local Character
Santa Tecla is celebrated in September, a time when many tourists have bid adieu to the coastal town, and schools have commenced their academic year. This timing infuses the festival with a distinct local character, making it a treasured experience for both residents and the remaining visitors.
Children as Protagonists
What truly distinguishes Santa Tecla is its focus on children as the main protagonists. The festival features morning shows that showcase the incredible talent and creativity of young performers. Dance exhibitions by children add a delightful touch, and the parades of giants and dragons, crafted and carried by kids, are a sight to behold. It’s a celebration that brings out the inner child in everyone.
The Main Events
The heart of Santa Tecla unfolds on September 22nd and 23rd. These days are marked by lively processions of popular dances that fill the streets with music and rhythm. The highlight of the festival is the mesmerizing fireworks display that lights up the night sky in a kaleidoscope of colors. This awe-inspiring spectacle takes place on September 22nd at 23:00, drawing locals and visitors alike to witness its splendor.
More Than Just Processions
Santa Tecla is not limited to a couple of days. In the lead-up to the main events, various acts related to Santa Tecla grace the town. Families can enjoy workshops, concerts, and a myriad of other activities that add depth and diversity to the celebration.
In conclusion, Santa Tecla Sitges 2023 is not just a festival; it’s a testament to the town’s unique spirit and its dedication to preserving tradition while celebrating the creativity and energy of its youngest residents. If you’re fortunate enough to be in Sitges in September, don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this enchanting experience.
