In light of the celebration of the Sitges Half Marathon this Sunday, January 12, and a month later, on February 22, the Sitges Rock Trail, today’s publication is dedicated to sports in Sitges: the sports you can practice, as well as the various clubs in town and their sports offerings.

Starting with the Sitges Half Marathon, this event has been held for many years, and only 13 years ago, the Quarter Marathon was introduced. This year marks the 41st edition of the Sitges Half Marathon and the 13th Quarter Marathon. The starting gun for the Quarter Marathon will be fired on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., with the Half Marathon starting at 10:00 a.m.

Looking at the activities available in Sitges, if you want to enjoy the natural surroundings, besides running, cycling, and swimming, you can also head to the Club Nàutic at Fragata Beach to rent a kayak or a paddleboard. Sitges also has a long seafront promenade, perfect for biking, running, walking, and more.

In another part of Sitges, in the neighborhood known as Poble Sec, there’s a skatepark. If you continue through this neighborhood and head up to the Pins Vens area, you’ll find the football and rugby fields of the local teams, Escola de Futbol Blanca Subur and Rugby Club Sitges. Both teams have excellent sports facilities and manage hundreds of children playing in their various categories.

Not far from there, you’ll find the Pins Vens municipal pavilion, home to Club de Basket Sitges, Club Patí Sitges, the artistic skating club, and two recently established futsal teams, Futsal Sitges and the futsal section of Unió Esportiva Sitges. The pavilion also hosts futsal tournaments every Sunday.

Beyond San Sebastián Beach, near the Sitges marina, you’ll find the Aiguadolç Municipal Stadium, home to Unió Esportiva Sitges. This club, apart from offering a youth academy, has a first team currently seen as the top contender to be promoted to the Lliga Elit, the highest regional league in Catalonia before reaching the Spanish Federation level. Rugby Club Sitges, on the other hand, is currently competing in the highest regional category and was playing in Spain’s top national division just two years ago.

Sports in Sitges are essential, with countless offerings that go beyond traditional sports. The town has designated areas for calisthenics, CrossFit, boxing, and gyms with machines. Additionally, there are football fields like the Johan Cruyff field and an initiative from the local government called “Patis Oberts” (“Open Playgrounds”), which keeps schoolyards open on weekends so residents can enjoy their football and basketball courts.
